Earlier today, Lenovo launched their first Android tablet to the local Malaysian market, the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 tablet.
Powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 2 T20 1.0GHz processor, the 10.1 inch tablet carries 32GB of storage and comes with useful trimmings like a mini SD card reader and a mini HDMI connector (wait, weren't those things banned by HDMI.org? *shrugs*). Running on Android 3.1, the K1 also comes with some simple customization from Lenovo such as a quick launch menu on the home screen and a social network hub of sorts called SocialTouch.
Interestingly, the K1 will ship with over 40 preinstalled applications worth RM200, which is a move which Lenovo hopes will help buyers achieve a true open-and-play experience. It also comes with an icon that will lead you to a dedicated Lenovo App Store which differentiates itself from the default Android Market by filtering out apps which aren't made for or won't optimally work on the K1. Lenovo says that they plan to extend this filtering on future tablet devices too, ensuring that tablet owners can get easy access to apps which are suitable for or optimized for their devices.
Another nice extra that comes with the K1 is complimentary access to 4GB of cloud storage from ArcSync. The service acts as a cloud based dropbox of sorts, allowing you to easily sync documents and files between the K1 and your notebook or desktop over the web. We're told that you can increase the amount of storage at additional cost, but the pricing structure has yet to be confirmed.
The first 50 people who were in queue to pick up the K1 today were treated to a special price of RM1199, and if you didn't manage to be one of those people, you'll have to make do with paying the full retail price of RM1499 which is still pretty decent in comparison to the competing products.
